COME and join the BanterFlix team for a beer, slice of pizza and a great movie at the Belfast Film Festival’s Beanbag Cinema. This month’s film has been picked by BanterFlix’s very own Jim McClean, it’s the last in our ‘Beer and A Slice’ screenings, but we’re finishing with a doozy: John Carpenter’s nail-bitingly tense pseudo-western, Assault on Precinct 13.

Forget the remake Carpenter’s 1976 original was written, directed, scored and edited by the filmmaker himself and it’s quite possibly one of his finest films. It stars Austin Stoker as a police officer who’s forced to defend his defunct precinct (Actually Precinct 9 not 13) against an attack by a relentless criminal gang. There’s heavy nods to Howard Hawk’s Rio Bravo (Hawks was Carpenter’s favourite director) and George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead within this cult classic that’s left a lasting legacy upon cinema.
