Film: My Bloody Valentine

Time: Doors 7.30pm/Film 8pm

This Valentine’s Night why not join the BanterFlix team as we screen George Mihalka’s cult slasher My Bloody Valentine at the Beanbag Cinema.
Forget the schlocky 3D remake released back in 2009; the original is a gritty low-budget feature released during the slasher movie’s heyday back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The plot sees a maniacal miner terrorizing the townspeople of a small mining town, stalking his victims and cutting out their hearts with a pick axe.
This grungy Canadian feature is wonderfully atmospheric, partly due to Paul Zaza’s fantastic score and although tame by today’s standards at the time American censors famously demanded nine minutes of ‘extreme’ violence and gore be cut from its runtime.
Slasher movie fans will see the many nods of bona-fide genre classics like John Carpenter’s Halloween, Bob Clark’s Black Christmas and even Friday the 13th, but Mihalka’s film is a still a solid slasher movie fully deserving its own cult status.
Doors at the Beanbag Cinema will be open from 7.30pm and the film starts sharply at 8pm. Tickets cost £6 when booked through our online box-office at Visit Belfast or £8 on the door.
This is a BYOB event, so why not grab a carry-out and come down to the beanbag cinema and watch something different this Valentine’s.
