COME and join the BanterFlix team at the Strand Arts Centre in East Belfast as for a special screening of Michel Gondry ‘s 2004 cult-classic Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, to celebrate I Forgot Day on Saturday 02nd July.
When Joel (Carrey) discovers that his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Winslet) has erased the memories of their relationship together, he hastily decides to follow suit, but as Joel begins to undergo the procedure he has a change of heart. As his sub-conscious watches the memories of their life together fade away Joel realises he still loves Clementine, from the deepest recesses of his brain he attempts an audacious plan to escape the procedure.
The film features two fantastic central performances by both Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet and an Oscar-winning screenplay written by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Anomalisa). Despite its sci-fi premise, this meta-rom-com fantastically explores the concept love and loss in a heartfelt, highly unorthodox, nonlinear and wonderfully visceral way.
Following the screening, members of the BanterFlix team will be sharing their thoughts on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and discussing other films that have explored the concept of memory within their narrative.
Tickets cost £6 and can be booked though the Strand’s website.
