JUST weeks before the release of the Wachowski’s sci-fi feature Jupiter Ascending the film’s release date has been abruptly pushed back by Warner Brothers until early February next year.
The reason for the delay is because even at this late stage Lana and Andy Wachowski claim they still need more time to complete the visual effects for the CGI heavy feature, which stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis and Sean Bean.
The film looks like a real old-school space epic, with a plot that spans intergalactic worlds and follows Jupiter Jones (Kunis) who links up with Channing Tatum’s space warrior character Caine after discovering she’s the heir to Earth, but been targeted for assassination.
The move comes as a surprise considering how heavily the studio has invested in the feature’s marketing campaign, with trailers for the film already showing in many multiplex theatres. Time will tell if this delay will be time well spent or simply delaying the release of a cinematic stinker.
