 1) The Overlook Hotel Award For Overlooked Film Of The Year Tobias Lindholm’s A Hijacking (Richard) (Jim Nominated Nat Faxon & Jim Rash’s The Way Way Back)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: “Too many great foreign films come and go like dark clouds in the night, little fanfare and not enough audience, this was one of the best, where the language was secondary to the compelling drama.”

2) The Prometheus Award For Cinematic Disappointment – Sir Ridley Scott’s The Counsellor (Jim) (Richard nominated Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments:Always Sir Ridley because he has set the bar so high for himself, that anything that falls short, is hugely disappointing.”

3) The Quentin Tarantino Award for Screenplay Excellence – Steve Coogan & Jeff Pope – Philomena (Jim) (Richard nominated Bob Nelson for Nebraska)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: “Brilliant screenplay, that took a tragic real story and made it a unmissable inspirational film for all ages.”

4) The Seamus McGarvey Award for Outstanding Cinematography – Bruno Delbonnel on Inside Llewyn Davis (Richard) (Jim nominated Rodger Deakins for Prisoners)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: “Not pastiche but a beautifully shot poetic period piece, filled with sixties brown and winter grey.”

5) The Werner Herzog Award for Documentary Excellence – Joshua Oppenheimer- The Act of Killing (Jim and Richard)

6) The Hans Zimmer Award for outstanding Soundtrack – Steven Price for Gravity (Jim and Richard)

7) Always the bridesmaid never the bride Award for Outstanding Performance by an actress in a Supporting Role – Juno Squibb in Nebraska (Jim and Richard)

8) The John Goodman Award for Outstanding performance by an Actor in a Supporting role – Sam Rockwell in The Way Way Back (Jim) (Richard nominated Michael Fassbender in 12 Years a Slave)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: “He made me want to work in a water park! So it has to be super Sam Rockwell, who lit up the screen with a dynamic star turn.”

9) The Meryl Streep Award for acting Excellence by an actress in a Leading Role – Dame Judi Dench in Philomena (Jim) (Richard nominated Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: Tough call, very strong category but Dame Judy did her mother proud with a superb performance as the Irish mama searching for her son.”

10) The Daniel Day Lewis Award for acting Excellence by an actor in a Leading Role – Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave (Richard) (Jim nominated Bruce Dern in Nebraska)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: I love Bruce Dern but Chiwetel was gut-wrenchingly great, with his quest for freedom captured in every scene in those haunted eyes.”

11) The Scorsese Award for outstanding directorial excellence– Alfonso Cuarón – Gravity (Jim and Richard)

12) Vertigo Award for outstanding feature of the year (Best Movie) Steve McQueen ‘s 12 Years a Slave (Richard) (Jim nominated Alexander Payne’s Nebraska)

Brian Henry Martin’s comments: “Has to be McQueen, who is a true cinematic artist, and whose images live long in the memory, Solomon dangling from that noose was a oil painting of horror and beauty.”
