ON Thursday 25th September the Strand Arts Centre in East Belfast will be screening Steven Spielberg’s 1975 blockbusting classic, Jaws. Based on Peter Benchley’s novel, Spielberg’s film about a giant great white shark terrorising the inhabitants of the New England beach resort of Amity Island was a huge box-office success and completely redefined the summer blockbuster genre.
Starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, the film went on to win three Oscars at the 1976 Academy Awards, including Best Soundtrack for John Williams’ truly unforgettable score. It launched Spielberg as one of the most exciting new directors within the industry’s ‘New Hollywood’ era and was a springboard for the filmmaker’s hugely successful career.
Tickets for the film screening at 8.20pm cost £3 each and can be purchased from the Strand’s website.
