A new trailer for Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has surfaced online earlier this week, giving viewers a better look at the wise cracking reptiles, their mutant master Splinter and more importantly the first glimpse of the Turtles’ arch-nemesis Shredder.
The latest trailer with its dubstep heavy soundtrack also showcases much more of the action viewers can expect when the film finally hits cinema-theatres in August later this year.#
The film has been the subject of much criticism from long-term fans, worried the reboot would alter the series’ mythology. These concerns surfaced after the film’s producer Michael Bay suggested that the central characters could be recast as “lovable aliens” and not mutant turtles.
But in a jokey reference to Bay’s statement during the trailer when Megan Fox’s character April O’Neil is asked if the turtles are extra-terrestrial in origin, she bluntly replies: “No, that’s stupid.”
While Bay might not be on directorial duties here, his influence on the project is clearly evident within the trailer. All his trademark style we’ve come to expect from his work on the Transformers movies are evident here, over the top action, CGI laden special effects and a seemingly threadbare narrative.
