An American Werewolf in London

Join Fright Club NI for another fun Fright Club evening as they screen John Landis’ iconic 1981 horror An American Werewolf in London starring David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter.

Naughton and Dunne star as two American tourists backpacking their way through the English moors when they are attacked by a vicious wolf that changes their lives forever. Agutter plays a friendly nurse who becomes entangled in their plight.

An American Werwolf in London is a seminal piece of 80s cinema that used groundbreaking new make-up and prosthetic special effects techniques to create one of the most mind-blowing onscreen transformations in cinema. Thanks to the legendary Rick Baker, the work still stands up today.

It has its funny moments and despite Landis’ claim that he didn’t specifically try to bring humour to the picture, it is often hailed as being the Greatest horror-comedy of all time. There’s some amazing small parts from top British actors like Michael Carter and Brian Glover and even a brief appearance from Rik Mayall, who only got the bit part because Landis had seen him and Ade Edmondson on-stage a few nights prior and thought his face was hilarious.
